Surrey Heath Community Providers Ltd, NHS Net Zero commitment
Our Commitment
Our Carbon Reduction Plan outlines the commitment of Surrey Heath Community Providers Ltd to
reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and supporting the NHS ambition to
achieve Net Zero.
As a provider and coordinator of primary care services, we recognise our responsibility to minimise
the environmental impact of our activities while continuing to deliver high-quality patient care. This
plan establishes a framework to measure, monitor and reduce our carbon emissions from energy
use, travel, procurement, waste management and other operational activities.
Through collaborative working with member GP practices, suppliers, staff and patients, we will
implement practical and sustainable measures that contribute to both environmental and health
benefits for our communities.
Our long-term ambition is to support the NHS Net Zero commitment and achieve significant
reductions in carbon emissions from our operational activities.
The NHS net zero national targets are:
- Net zero by 2040 for the emissions the NHS controls directly (the NHS Carbon Footprint),
with an 80% reduction by 2028 to 2032.
- Net zero by 2045 for the emissions the NHS can influence (the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus),
with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2036 to 2039.
We have established the following local targets:
SHCP Short-Term Target (by 2030): Reduce total carbon emissions by 50% from the baseline year.
SHCP Medium-Term Target (by 2035): Reduce total carbon emissions by 80% from the baseline year.
SHCP Long-Term Target (by 2040): Achieve Net Zero emissions across our operational footprint.
NHS Long-Term Target (by 2045): In line with the national NHS commitment, we will seek to support net zero for the broader NHScarbon footprint covering supply chain, travel and partnered services by 2045
Progress against these targets will be reviewed annually.
